RGB Studio changes the lights on your peripherals, and that’s it. Here’s what data goes through the app, the site, and the payment, and what you can do about it.

01Who’s responsible

The data on this site and in the app is handled by RGB Studio. For any privacy question, email us at hola@rgbstudio.co.

02The app

We reviewed the code of the current version of RGB Studio (1.0.0, beta) to write this section. Here’s what it does and what it doesn’t.

What it doesn’t do

  • It has no account or sign-up.
  • It includes no analytics, telemetry, automatic error reporting, or advertising.
  • It doesn’t connect to the internet: it has no code that sends data to a server or requests data from one. The interface loads from inside the app itself.
  • It doesn’t check for updates on its own. You download new versions yourself from the site.
  • It doesn’t read what you type or what you do with the mouse.

What it stores on your Mac

Settings
Your profiles, each device’s settings, and your preferences, in ~/Library/Application Support/RGBStudio/state.json.
Technical log
The models and USB identifiers it found in the last scan, in last-scan.log, in the same folder. It’s there for support and only leaves your Mac if you send it to us.
Start with macOS
If you turn on “Start with macOS”, a file at ~/Library/LaunchAgents/studio.rgb.agent.plist so the app launches when you log in.

To delete everything, remove the app and those folders or files.

Your devices and macOS permissions

The app talks to your Razer peripherals over USB: it identifies which model each one is and sends it the lighting commands. That communication stays between your Mac and the device.

Some devices (for example, certain Kraken headsets) can only be opened if macOS gives the app the Input Monitoring permission. macOS describes that permission as the ability to see what you type, which is why it shows that warning when it asks. RGB Studio uses it only to open those devices and send them colors: it doesn’t record, read, or store your keystrokes.

The “Send feedback” button

It’s the only part of the app that uses the internet, and only when you click it. It opens rgbstudio.co in your browser, with this data in the page address so the form is filled in for you:

  • the app version;
  • the macOS version;
  • the names of the connected Razer devices;
  • the USB identifier of any Razer devices the app doesn’t recognize, if there are any.

Because this data travels in the page address, it may end up in the hosting provider’s technical logs, just like any visit. Nothing else is sent until you fill in the form and send it.

03The website

  • No tracking or analytics cookies. We don’t use Google Analytics, social media pixels, or advertising.
  • Your language. If you choose a language, the site saves it in your browser (in local storage, not in a cookie) so it doesn’t ask you again. That data isn’t sent anywhere.
  • Hosting. The server that hosts the site logs technical data for each visit (IP address, browser, page requested, and time) to keep the site running and protect it from abuse.
  • External libraries. For the animations, the home page loads libraries from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net). Like any web server, jsDelivr receives your IP address and information about your browser. The legal pages don’t load anything external.

04The feedback form

If you write to us through the feedback form, we receive:

What you fill in
Message type (something’s broken, a suggestion, a model request, or something else), device, macOS version, your message and, if you want, your email.
If you come from the app
The app version, the exact macOS version, and the USB identifier of the device that isn’t recognized.
Technical data
Whether you came from the app or the website, the page address, your browser (the “user agent,” which includes the operating system), and the date and time it was sent.

We use this data only to understand the problem, reply to you if you left your email, and improve the product. We won’t add you to any newsletter or mailing list without asking you first.

Messages from the form reach us so we can read them and reply. If the form is ever not connected, your mail app opens with the message ready to go, and you send it yourself.

05Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. What you enter on the checkout page (email, name, card details, and country or postal code) is handled by Stripe under its privacy policy.

From Stripe, we receive your name, email, country, the amount and date of the payment, and the card brand and last four digits. We never see or store your full card number.

We use this data to give you access to the app, send you the receipt, handle refunds and questions, prevent fraud, and meet our accounting and tax obligations.

06What we use the data for

  • To sell and deliver the app to you, and to handle refunds: this is necessary to fulfill your purchase.
  • To reply to you and improve RGB Studio with what you tell us in your feedback: because you send it to us for that purpose.
  • To keep the site running and protected: this is our legitimate interest.
  • To comply with the law, for example by keeping sales records.

We don’t use your data for advertising, we don’t build profiles about you, and we don’t make automated decisions that affect you.

07Who we share it with

We don’t sell or rent your data. It’s shared only with the services we need to operate, and each one gets the minimum:

Stripe
Processes payments and refunds.
jsDelivr
Serves the animation libraries for the home page.

Some of these services process data outside your country, for example in the United States. We may also share data if an authority legally requires us to.

08How long we keep it

  • Feedback messages: for as long as the beta lasts and up to one year after, so we can follow up on the issue or idea. If you want us to delete them sooner, just ask.
  • Purchase data: for as long as accounting and tax law requires.
  • Site technical logs: for as long as the hosting provider keeps them, usually a few days or weeks.

09Your rights

At any time, you can ask us to see the data we have about you, correct it, delete it, take it with you in a common format, or object to our using it.

Email us at hola@rgbstudio.co from the address you used to buy or to send feedback, so we can confirm it’s you. We’ll reply within the time limits set by law.

If you think we haven’t handled your data properly, you can also file a complaint with your country’s data protection authority.

10Minors, security, and changes

  • Minors: RGB Studio isn’t meant for anyone under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think we’ve received data from a minor, let us know and we’ll delete it.
  • Security: we ask for the minimum and use providers with good security measures. Even so, no system is 100% secure.
  • Changes: if what the app or the site does with your data changes, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date. If a change is significant, we’ll announce it on the site.
